I Grew Up in Sylmar
My name is Sheela DuMond and I grew up in Sylmar. I lived in a little house on Dyer St. It was a little street. Around our house, there were other little houses. On the hill there was a big park. Our house had two bedrooms and I slept in the same room with my brother. There was a big backyard with grape vines, a lemon tree, and an orange tree. One day I began to eat one of the grapes and it was sour. There was also a turtle sandbox and I played in it. While I was fooling around in our backyard a feral kitten was following me around and my mom adopted her and named her Sasha. I got stung by a wasp while I was catching it, but luckily, I didn’t have an allergic reaction. After my mom moved out and got divorced, our house caught on fire on Labor Day 1995. Our dad moved to a one-story house in West Hills and now I live in Ventura.
